Pauanui Boathouse
This substantial holiday home fulfills the client’s requirement for a New Zealand interpretation of southeastern seaboard architecture. This aesthetic utilises weatherboards, shutters, pitched roof forms, and bleached colours – a refreshing departure from the ubiquitous modernist style currently pervading New Zealand coastlines, but a style that sits comfortably in this beachfront context.
Apart from accommodating a large boat, the structure encloses two separate living areas to suit teenage independence, and captures sea views from every room. Soft interior colours and relaxed furnishings complete the consistent theming.
