Brandish Office

“Crisp treatment of a corner site, and an intense exercise in corporate branding”

Relationship to site, context, presence

As a dynamic marketing company, Brandish required their building facelift to be a billboard for their business. The corner site presented an opportunity for expression of a solid promontory form with high level signage. The street verandah relates to the neighbouring building, but is truncated in order to accentuate the corner promontory. The Victoria Street facade is the active frontage/public interface, while service and staff access is via Rostrevor Street.

Relationship between concept, form, structure

Layout comprises front-of-house reception and meeting areas, and back-of-house office and production areas. The corner promontory is the logical point of entry, opening directly to the reception/display space - required to be large enough to accommodate a car. The accent of the remaining space is on creative production staff, including open plan offices space and a time-out zone

Light, colour, texture, space

Corporate colours of red and white prevail throughout the exterior and interior design. Slick, shiny surfaces are used extensively in the front-of-house areas, while more subtle surface treatment – including translucent walls – is used in the office area. Certain elements of the fitout are given special attention, such as the ‘whiteboard’ wall, and the ‘recycled wing’ boardroom table.

Structure, construction, materials, detail

There was an existing building on the site, whose structure formed the basis of the new built form. An existing strong room was retained to form the ‘vault’ – a brainstorming room, isolated from outside interruptions. The brilliant whites and reds of the exterior are achieved using aluminium composite panel; and the interior finishes include white ceramic tiles and highlight furnishings

User satisfaction

Brandish have found the building to be well suited to their creative production needs, as well as for meeting with clients. Additionally, the building has been used for a range of functions, including a party venue at the official building opening.

Contribution/spirit

By replacing an aging building with a vibrant new façade, Brandish have engaged with the street in a 3-dimensional expression of art and corporate marketing.
