A new concept in urban planning for Hamilton City, this 44-site development is designed to achieve synchronicity between built form and the landscape, and between buildings and their neighbours.
A close working partnership between the client, Architect, and council staff enabled significant departures from the standard development model, including the creation of a new 4-hectare public reserve, generous boulevards, and linkages to the parkland. The development plan comprises a unique mix of gated areas and open areas, affording public access to parkland and to future connections.
The estate is designed around the natural contours of the landform to provide a rich variety of building terraces, rather than the traditional completely leveled site. The adjacent reserves form the theme of the immediate environment; and the roads within the estate accentuate this theming through landscape design. Stone-lined roads and pathways (evocative of a river bed) wind through the undulating landform in keeping with the river/reserve context.
